Sintesis Biodiesel Dari Minyak Biji Karet (Rubber Seed Oil) Dengan Variasi Berat Katalis Dan Waktu Reaksi Pada Reaksi Esterifikasi
ABSTRACT
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that can be synthesized from vegetable oils or animal fats. In this research, biodiesel was synthesized from rubber seed oil. Rubber seed oil has a high free fatty acid contain, so esterification reaction was using acid catalyst (H2SO4). Esterification reaction was performed using variation weight of catalyst (0.5, 1, and 2% w/w) and reaction time (1,2 and 3 hours) at a temperature reaction of 65 °C and mol ratio of oil:methanol (1:6). After esterification, reaction was continued with transesterification reaction using catalyst CaO derived from Anadara granosa calcinated at 900 oC at 10 h under condition reaction was at a temperature of 60 °C, the weight of the catalyst 3% (w/w), mol ratio of oil:methanol (1:6 ) for 3 hours. The result of biodiesel was analyzed by GC-MS and characterization according SNI-04-7182-2006. Water and free fatty acid content of rubber seed oil were 0.5% and 24.22%. Percentage of free fatty acid decreased was 90,66%. Maximum of biodiesel was produced under conditions of catalyst 2% w/w, reaction time 3 hours was 90,00%. The results of GC-MS analysis was obtained from biodiesel was methyl linoleate with a total area of 46.90%. Characteristics of biodiesel in this research were the water content of 0.023%, density of 888 kg/m3, viscosity of 3.63 mm2/s, flash point of 175 oC, carbon residue of 0.27%, acid number of 5.41 mg KOH/g, saponification number of 201,57 mg KOH/g, iodine number of 50.19 g Iod/100g and cetane number of 62.09. The result of these characteristics in according SNI 04-7182-2006 except acid number and carbon residue.
