Pemanfaatan Biji Kelor (Moringa Oleifera) Sebagai Koagulan Limbah Cair Pabrik Kelapa Sawit
ABSTRACT
Moringa oleifera, natural coagulant material do not produce toxic materials. Plants derived from seeds that have high protein content are potential to be used as cationic polyelectrolyte which can help the coagulation-flocculation process. In this research, Moringa oleifera were used in handling palm oil mill effluent by looking at the effect of the use of Moringa oleifera coagulant and without the useof moringa seed coagulant effectiveness in the sample before and the coagulant treatment of Moringa oleifera in the sample after the reduction of BOD5, COD and Phosphate concentration by chemical means coagulation-flocculation method. The result of measurement of BOD5 value, with winkler method, obtained high concentration value on the sample before were 38.75 mg/L while for the sample after treatment with moringa coagulant obtained small concentration were 20.60 mg/L with parameter reduction percentage that is 46, 84%. The result of measurement of COD value obtained by concentration value on sample before and sample after were 590.00 mg/L and 346.27 mg/L which determined by bichromat reflux method with parameter reduction percentage were 41.31%. The concentration of phosphate sample before and sample after with coagulant treatment of Moringa oleiferawere 166.85 mg/L and 123.35 mg/L with ascorbic acid method using spectrophotometer UV-Vis with parameter reduction percentage was 26.07%. Based on KEPMENLH No.5/MENLH/2104 on the quality standard of liquid waste of palm oil industry, BOD5 concentration was below the upper threshold value, while COD and Phosphate were above threshold value. This is to dosage of Moringa oleiferaas much as 3g is processed being insufficient coagulant to decompose organic enough to decompose organic compounds in the sample. The result of t-paired t-test analysis (α = 0,05) indicated that moringa coagulant coagulation can assist the coagulation-flocculation process in handling palm oil mill effluent to reduced of BOD5, COD and phosphate concentration.
