Abstract: Siti Romlah NIM. 1305188916. This study aims to determine the
improvement of early reading ability in children aged 4-5 years through the use of
word cards pictorial in Paud Pertiwi Sukamaju Village Singingi Hilir Subdistrict.
This study is a type of research using classroom action research or (PTK)
conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action planning,
observation / evaluation and reflection. The subjects of this study are children
aged 4-5 years, amounting to 12 children in Paud Pertiwi Sukamaju Village
Singingi Hilir Research data obtained through the method of observation and
data analysis conducted with quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The
results showed that pictorial card media can improve the reading ability of
starters in children aged 4-5 years. This can be seen from the increase of the
average percentage of the ability to read the beginning of the first cycle of
54.96% which is on the criteria to grow as expected (BSH) and increased by 22%
in cycle II to 88.30% which is in the criteria to develop Very good (BSB). 97%
increase So the word card media can improve the reading ability of children aged
4-5 years at Paud Pertiwi Sukamaju Village Singingi Hilir Subdistrict
