Impregnasi Fe Pada Arang Cangkang Buah Ketapang (Terminalia Catappa) Dan Aplikasinya Pada Pengolahan Air Gambut
Shell of ketapang (Terminalia catappa) has chemical composition of cellulose and lignin as a carbon source, which potentially to be used as an adsorbent in the adsorption process. This study aimed to change ketapang shells into charcoal-Fe by carbonization and impregnation process. Carbonization carried out at temperature of 500oC with variation times 15 and 30 minutes, was impregnated precursor Fe (NO3)3.9H2O and was calcined at temperature of 200oC for 1 hour. Charcoal-Fe was characterized its functional groups by using FTIR instrument, surface morphology and element composition by SEM-EDX. Functional groups of charcoal-Fe were O-H, O-H (fenolic), C-H, C=O and C-O. Fe composition in charcoal-Fe only 0.535%weight and 0.115%atom with range pore diameters from 1.17-1.83 μm. Charcoal-Fe with mass 2 and 4 g were applied in the peat water treatment with volume 200 mL in (w/v). Analysis parameters of peat water were odor, color, pH, turbidity, organic matter and Fe content. The results showed that charcoal-Fe carbonization resulted for 30 minutes with the mass 4 g could reduce analysis parameters better. However, peat water treatment by using charcoal-Fe can not be able to reduce analysis parameters according to the standard limit for drinking water
