Studi Fenomenologi: Pengalaman Pasien Kanker dalam Menjalani Kemoterapi Oral
Abstract
Oral chemotherapy is a kind of treatment which is the use of cytotoxic drugs which is formed in pills, tablets, capsules or liquids given by mouth which is focused to destroy, control and stop the growth of cancer cells. This research is qualitative design with phenomenology method. The aim of this research to explore the patients experience undergoing oral chemotherapy in the Arifin Achmad Hospital Riau Province. The data were collected throught in-depth interviews with three participants through purposive sampling technique. The result of this research have six themes: 1) the knowledge of oral chemotherapy, 2) the participants feeling, 3) side effect of oral chemotherapy, 4) coping mechanisms, 5) the support and 6) nurse performance perception and hope to nurses. Participants knowledge about oral chemotherapy is limited, so they can not take them so well. The participants feelings undergoing oral chemotherapy depend on previous treatment experience. Participants explain that oral chemotherapy had a physical impact on their body system include the disgetive, integument, circulatory, innervation, respiratory, sensory, motoric and musculoskletal and the physicological effect include fear, sadness and thought of death. They also have coping mechanism to reduce side effect by consuming pharmacological and non-pharmacological drugs, resting and changing daily behaviour. Participants received support from family and social environment. They perceptions about nurses performance only on administrative directives. Based on this result, it is expected for nurse can gives therapeutic communication and health education about drugs management and side effects symptom management to patients who undergoing oral chemotherapy treatment appropriately.
