Profil Infeksi Gigi (Karies) Di Rumah Sakit Universitas Riau Periode 1 Januari 2015 – 31 Desember 2017

Caries is an infectious disease in the hard tissue of teeth caused by the bacteria Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus. Bacterial activity converts glucose and carbohydrates at foods into acid through a fermentation process. Acid continues to be produced by bacteria and ultimately damages the structure of the tooth. Indonesian people aged 12 years and over have active caries of 43.4% and 67.2% have a history of caries. This study aimed to determine the profile of dental infection (caries) at the University of Riau Hospital Period 1 January 2015 - 31 December 2017. The study was conducted in the medical record and Oral Dental Out Patient Clinic at University of Riau Hospital. The results of the study was presented in the form of frequency tables and expressed in percentages. The results showed the highest incidence of dental caries in 2015 was 144 patients (43.2%), the highest age was found at age > 21 years 210 patients (63.1%), the highest number of women were 208 patients (62.5%) , the highest level of education level was found at senior high school 254 patients (76.3%), the highest number of teeth of 223 molar patients (67.0%), the most caries classification of deep caries 192 patients (57.7%), and the most management with fillings teeth 161 patients (48.3%), followed by root canal treatment 115 patients (34.5%).
