The background of this study is that most children can not count, if any child can count but the child has not known the number symbol. Besides this the teacher has introduced, taught and paired the number according to the number through singing, through LKA but the child still not able. Based on the fact that the analysis can be concluded the child can not distinguish the numbers.
Based on the background, the researcher did the improvement and optimize the ability to recognize the symbol of the number in the child according to the level of development of his age. The purpose of this research is to know the improvement of the ability to recognize the symbol of numbers through grain media in children aged 5-6 years, to know the application of grain media in improving the ability to recognize the number symbols in children aged 5-6 years and to know the big Increasing the ability to recognize the symbol of the number of children aged 5-6 years through grain media in PAUD Tunas Bangsa Kecamatan Pekaitan Kabupaten Rokan Hilir. This type of research is a classroom action research conducted in 2 cycles. In 1 cycle there are 3 meetings. The data collection tool used in this research is in the form of observation sheet. The number of samples in this study were 15 children consisting of 9 boys and 6 girls. Implementation of actions concerning what the researcher does as an improvement effort, improvement or change that is carried out is guided by action plan. The type of action taken in the should always be based on consideration in accordance with the optimal program outcome. In this research, the researcher perform the activity according to daily activity plan.
Based on the recapitulation of the ability to recognize the number symbol through the grain medium of children aged 5-6 years before the action, cycle I and cycle II, obtained the average score before the implementation of action that is 45.56% with the criteria start developing (MB) Average in the first cycle of 59.63% with the criteria developed according to expectations (BSH). Due to the average value in cycle I is still low and categorized to grow as expected (BSH), then the researchers continue the second cycle. In cycle II the average value obtained is 83.70% with very good developing criteria (BSB).
