Analisis Diatom Epipelik Sebagai Bioindikator Kualitas Perairan Pesisir Kota Dumai
Dumai City is one of 12 regencies/cities in Riau Province with 1,727.38 km2 of area. One of the environmental problems is the potential for pollution in coastal waters caused by various spatial use activities such as the oil industry area consisting PT. CPI (Chevron Pacific Indonesia), PT. Pertamina, the palm oil processing industry (CPO) of PT. BKR (Bukit Kapur Reksa) and land conversion, human activities, trade and services, including the Dumai Port with bulk fertilizer as the main commodity imported through this port. The high anthropogenic activities described above giving a negative impact to Dumai City Coastal condition and the result is the changes in water quality. Changes in water quality can also be seen from biological indicators with the premise that environmental changes would change the existence of organisms as individuals, populations and communities. One of degradation of water quality indicators can be seen from changes in water quality. Diatom is organism that can be used as an environmental bioindicator, the presence of diatom is influenced by various factors both the quality of the water and the substrate to which it attaches, so that these organisms have a good response to the effects of pollution. This study was conducted to analyze and determine the physical and chemical status of water quality in the Coastal Waters of Dumai City. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the status of water quality by utilizing diatoms as bioindicators of water quality. Survey method was used and was conducted in December 2018 - April 2019 in the Coastal Waters of Dumai City, Riau Province. The location of sampling of physical and chemical parameters determined by purposive sampling. Based on consideration of environmental conditions and Dumai City Regulation No. 11 article 9 of 2002, it was determined that sampling of 4 stations, where each station has 5 sampling points used as repetition. The results of the study found epipelic diatoms around the Coastal waters of Dumai City consisted of 17 species with an average abundance of 10930.08-17842.62 ind / cm2 and the community index included the diversity index of 2.08-2.59 and Dominance index values range from 0.19 to 0.30 and uniformity index values range from 0.84 to 0.91. Based on the index value of epipelic diatom communities that found in the area, the Coastal Waters of Dumai City is in a medium polluted condition and there is no dominants species of epipelic diatom and no competition either in place or nutrients. The epipelic diatom species as an indicator of the coastal waters of Dumai City is Synedra ulna. The relationship between abundance of epipelic diatoms with physical and chemical parameters are very strong.
