Developing this assessment instrument should be done because the problem was found at State Senior High School 1 Ujungbatu and State Senior High School 2 Ujungbatu that the teachers in these schools have never made a question to measure creative thinking skills of students. Creative thinking skill plays an important role in achieving educational objectives, especially in understanding chemical materials. Understanding a good chemical concept tends to be gained when students have good high-level thinking skills. A person who already has the ability to think critically, logically, and reasoning is required also to have the ability of thoughtful thinking.
Teachers play an important role in enhancing the creativity of students in the school. There are many things teachers can do to stimulate and train students' creative thinking skills such as familiarizing students to answering questions that can practice creative thinking skills. The tests that were usually used in schools were mostly only finding the correct answer (convergent thinking) so that the creative thinking skills were not significantly measured. The purpose of this study was to obtain proper, effective, and innovative assessment instrument to measure students creative thinking skills specifically on acid-base materials.
This study used the design of research and development of Borg and Gall model modification, conducted at State Senior High School 1 Ujungbatu, State Senior High School 2 Ujungbatu and State Senior High School 1 Rambah taken through purposive random sampling. The samples in the study were 94 students. The data obtained were qualitative data in the form of advise from three expert lecturers and quantitative data such as the validation results and the student answers sheet in the test by implementing problem posing method in the learning process.
Data analysis techniques for the validity of contents used Aiken formula, the construct validity used Pearson Correlation, and reliability used Cronbach alpha. The difficulty level of the problem was determined by determining the difficulty index which was then interpreted based on the category of difficulty levels, differentiation power was analyzed by determining the differentiator Power Index and then interpreted based on the category of differentiator power, while for creative thinking ability was analyzed by using two-sample pair tests (Paired T-test samples) and increased creative thinking skills were determined from magnitude N-Gain.
The results of the study obtain the validation value of Aiken's content of 3 specialists ranging from 0.82 to 0.94 which means that all instruments are valid in content, the construct validity results are 16 questions valid and 3 items of invalid, the value of Person Correlation each item > 0.254 if n = 60. Results of reliability test that has the value of Cronbach's alpha overall > 0.6, thus it is reliable. The difficulty level of the problems is in easy category 3 questions, medium category 10 questions, and difficult category 3 questions, likewise a differentiation of problems consists of good category 2 questions, medium category 11 questions, and bad category 3 questions. The results of a descriptive statistical analysis obtains an average of N-Gain indicating that the increase of creative thinking skills is 0.67 which is in the range of 0.3 ≤ N-Gain ≤ 0.7 therefore it belongs to medium category. Overall there is increase on students’ creative thinking skill.
The development of this assessment instrument can facilitate teachers and schools to meet the assessment standards and deliver students to the competencies that have been applied and improve the students ' thinking skills.
