Efektivitas Pemberian Hormon Tiroksin (T4) Dan Photoperiod Terhadap Pertumbuhan Ikan Baung (Mystus Nemurus)
The thyroxine hormone (T4) in low concentrations can increase fish growth. The growth of fish influenced by its environment such as photoperiode (lighting periode). This study aims to find best doses of the thyroxine (T4) to increase the growth of baung (Mystus nemurus) that are maintained with photoperiode.
The experimental method using a factorial randomized design with two factors and three repetitions. The first factor is photoperiode with lighting duration of 0, 12 or 24 hours/day, while the second factor is the dose of hormones given during the study. The dose of hormones given are 0 , 2 , 4 or 6 mg/kg of feed. The fish used are 5 – 6.5 cm in size with 60 days old. They kept in a 60 x 40 x 30 cm of cage placed in a wood coated tents (20 of fish/ m3). Sampling performed every 14 days for 56 days. The parameters measured in this study were absolute weight growth, absolute length growth, specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate, feed conversion ratio, while protein retention, fat retention, levels of muscle and liver glycogen were obtained at the beginning and end of the study.
The results showed that the interaction between photoperiode and dose of thyroxine (0 hours /day and 6 mg /kg of feed) significantly affected fat retention (91.68±6.54 %) and level of liver glycogen (3.27±0.26 µg/mg). Photoperiode (0 hours /day) significantly increased the absolute length growth (4.30±1.95 cm), absolute weight growth (4.87±0.44 g), daily growth rate (2.22±0.11 %), survival rate (98.21±3.57 %), feed conversion ratio (1.71±0.07), protein retention (19.29±2.41 %), fat retention (77.71±10.09 %), level of muscle glycogen (4,36±0.38 µg/mg) and level of liver glycogen (2.46±0.91 µg/mg). The dose of thyroxine (6 mg/kg of feed) significantly increased the absolute length growth (4.41±0.13 cm), absolute weight growth (4.93±0.45 g), daily growth rate (2.24±0.11 %), survival rate (97.6±2.38 %), protein retention (20.28±1.27 %), level of muscle glycogen (4.39±0.36 µg/mg) and level of liver glycogen (2.43±0.73 µg/mg).
