Pengaruh Kecepatan Pengadukan Pada Sistem High Rate Algae Reactor (Hrar) Terhadap Kinerja Konsorsium Mikroalga – Bakteri Dalam Menyisihkan Cod Dan Nitrogen Total Pada Palm Oil Mill Effluent (Pome)
The stabilization pond system are used in almost all of palm oil mills in Indonesia. The potential of microalgae have not utilized yet optimally in stabilization pond. Microalgae have the ability to treat wastewater. Microalgae growth can be enhanced by HRAR. HRAR is a technology that is able to increase microalgae biomass, and with a consortium of microalgae-bacteria, the elimination of organic matter is increasing. This research aim by determined the effect of mixing velocity in the HRAR system towards the removal efficiency of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and total nitrogen in POME. The research by using solar energy as a source of light and was carried out in batches for 7 days. Variations of mixing velocity was 16, 20, and 24 cm/sec and mixing were operated 24 hours per day. Based on the research results, the mixing velocity of 20 cm/sec was the best velocity for consortium of indigenous microalgae-bacteria. The highest microalgae cells density was 6,12 x 106 cells / mL on the 5th day and the best removal efficiency of COD and total nitrogen values were 85% and 82,2%.
Keywords: High Rate Algae Reactor (HRAR), Velocity of Mixing, Microalgae- Bacterial Consortium, Palm Oil Mill Effluents (POME).
