Exclusive breastfeeding failure caused by prelacteal feeding. Prelacteal is food or drink given to infant in one to three days after birth before the breast milk released. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of mother’s knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding to the prelacteal. The design of this study was correlational with cohort approach. The sampling technique was purposive sampling and the samples were 46 respondents. This study was chi square. The result of this study found that 32 respondents lack of knowledge (69,9%) and 22 respondents given prelacteal (47,8%). The analysis found that there was a significant correlation between mother’s knowledge to prelacteal given to infant (p value 0,01 < α 0,05). The research recommends the health workers to provide counseling for pregnant mother about exclusive breastfeeding and the impact of prelacteal, as long as prenatal period.
