Efektivitas Penyuluhan Kesehatan Gigi Dan Mulut Terhadap Pengetahuan Anak Usia Sekolah Tentang Karies Gigi

Dental caries in school-age children can occur due to lack of knowledge, so that dental health education is needed to improve school-age children's knowledge of dental caries. This study aimed was to knowing the effectiveness of dental and oral health education in school-age children’s knowledge regarding dental caries. This study uses a quantitative research design with quasy experiment approach. The samples in this study were 54 students Public Elementary School 80 Pekanbaru with an experiment group of 27 students and a control group of 27 students. The data collection was obtained through questionnaire. This study found that students in the experiment group had good knowledge (86.48%) while students in the control group had sufficient knowledge (74.63%). The results of the statistical tests with the Wilcoxon and Mann-whitney test showed that dental and oral health education is effective on the student’s knowledge with (p value 0,000 < α 0,05). The results of this study are recommend that health workers in the Public health center, especially in the School Dental Service (SDS), to remain provide dental and oral health promotion ecpecially dental care to school-age children regarding dental caries.
