Pembuatan Karbon Aktif Berpori Dari Batang Ubi Kayu Untuk Elektroda Superkapasitor

Porous activated carbon from young cassava stems for supercapacitor electrodes has been synthesized and characterized successfully. Preparation starts from cutting samples, drying, pre-carbonizing at temperature of 250°C for 2.5 hours, crushing using mortar-Ball-Milling, and uniformizing particle size of ˂53μm using a sieving equipment. This study focuses on the effect of variations in the concentration of chemical activating agent of ZnCl2 namely 0.1M, 0.3M, 0.5M and 0.7M. Carbonization process was carried out at a temperature of 600°Cin the N2 gas atmosphere and physical activation at 900°C in the CO2gas. The density, surface morphology, degree of crystalline, material composition, and electrode surface area were analyzed. Electrochemical properties were tested using a two-electrode system with H2SO4 electrolytes at a scanning rate of 1mV/s. Specific capacitance for all variations of concentrations were 144,6541 F/g, 164,585 F/g, 112,7083 F/g, and 89,14634 F/g, respectively. The optimum concentration of ZnCl2 activator was found at 0.3 M with a specific surface area of 329 m²/g, specific capacitance of 164.585 F/g, energy density of 22.86 Wh/Kg and power density of 82.38 W/Kg.
