Persepsi Masyarakat Tentang Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) Di Kota Pekanbaru
The existence of green open space is an important element that affects the quality of ecologically and socially-psychologically human life, if that lost will cause psychological, emotional, and dimensional instability which causes the community’s space for activity ang thinking to become narrow.
Pekanbaru City as a city that cares about environmental issues is now actively making efforts to improve the enviromment quality by building and revitalizing green open space, but green open space in Pekanbaru City has a problem that threatens the existence that green open space, cleanliness and facilities of green open space are poorly maintained and visitors are lower than other public spaces, that influenced by human activities as visitors. Community participation is the main element in a green open space planning, visitors play a role to maintaining the quality and quantity of green open space, these roles and habits are inseparable from the behavior of individuals that are response of their perspective. A positive perceptions will determine a positive attitude as well, and positive behavior of each individual will produce positive habits so that people’s lifestyles towards a green open space are better. So as a first step to positive attitude, it is necessary to study the community’s perception of green open space in Pekanbaru City, so that policies about green open space can be designed appropriately.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the community’s understanding of green open space as part of environmental management in Pekanbaru City, analyze people’s view about green open space to protect the environment and analyze the community’s assessment of green open space existence to protect the living environment.
This research is focused on Community Perception About Green Open Space (understanding, perspective, and assessments) viewed based on the locations of the community’s residence. The reason for selecting the location of the study is based on eco-demography: Sukajadi Sub-District (high population density) and Rumbai Sub-District (low population density), and topographically: Sukajadi Sub-District, wich has a non-green greater than green area, was selected Jadirejo Village (has green open space behind the Regional Library) and Sukajadi Village (doesn’t have green open space). While for Rumbai Sub-District, which has a larger green open space area than non-green areas, was selected Umban Sari Village (has green open space that PCR’s garden and Lancang Kuning’s garden) and Rumbai Bukit Village (doesn’t have green open space).
Research approach used is descriptive quantitative with proportional stratified random sampling technique, using a questionnaire as instrument. Validity test using SPSS program with testing techniques using Bivariate Pearson correlations and Reliability measured by Cronbach’s Alpha test. Identification of factors that influence the presence of green open space by distributing questionnaires, measuring variables using the Liker’s Scale, then the data collected is scored, then performed Kruskal-Wallis test to compare respondent’s perceptions in 4 research location.
The results of this study are the community perception about green open space in Pekanbaru City was considered good, the level of respondent’s understanding are good category, majority of respondent’s views are in high category, and majority of respondent’s assessment of green open space are not good enough category. The Kruskal-Wallis test yields a P-value (Asymp. Sig. Value) of 0,705 > 0,05 means that the location of residence doesn’t affect to community’s perception of green open space
