SUMMARY
The main chemical compounds of the wood are cellulose, hemicellulose and
lignin. A sample of the wood from PT. Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper Tbk Perawang
was used for this analysis. The purpose of this investigation is to determine the
type of the wood based on the level of chemical compounds in the wood, such as
water, cellulose and lignin which is insoluble in acid. The methods used for this
analysis are Gravimetry method and Tappi Test Method. Gravimetry analytical
method in is used to determine the quantity of substance or component that have
known from measuring the weight the separation process. The result indicated that
the water content in the wood is 1,8295%, whereas the contents of cellulose and
lignin (insoluble in acid) are 46,983% and 23,957%, respectively. This the wood
belongs to the type of hardwood.
