Attractor use light LED (Light Emiting Diode) red color in the traps can increase
the number of catches. The purpose of the research is to analyze the effect of red
light and CD (Compact Disc) with bait on the catch of grouper (Epinephelus sp) on the
coral trap fishing gear that is operated during the dark and bright moon in the waters of
Painan Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra. Two types of light attractors are used,
namely the red LED light attractor with a light intensity of 8.3 lux and the CD with
bait as a control. Data were collected by operating 8 units of bubu in Painan coral
waters at a depth of 7 m, distance between bubu 15 m and analyzed using
descriptive statistics. A total catch during fishing is 327 where around 84 is maon
catch, roughly 189 is by catch and the rest is discard. Descriptive statistical analysis
shows that the different contractors used in grouper fishing (Epinephelus sp) on coral
trap fishing gear and the different phases of the moon have effect on the catch in
weight (kg). Bubu catches during the dark moon increased by 23.3 kg using red light
attractor, 16.6 kg using CD with bait and decreased during the bright moon with 10.1
kg using red light attractors 9.6 kg using a CD with bait. The use of red light attractor
during bubu operations is highly recommended so that the target fish catch increases
during the dark moon.
