Sintesis Dan Karakterisasi Membran Selulosa Asetat Dari Serat Daun Nanas Untuk Pengolahan Limbah Cair Industri Pulp And Paper
ABSTRACT
Membrane is a permeable or semi-permeable phase, often a thin polymeric solid,
which restricts the motion of certain species. Due to its energy-saving and costeffective,
membrane technology has become an indispensable platform
technology that can be developed to support industrial wastewater treatment such
as the pulp and paper industry. Membranes can be made from polymeric materials
such as cellulose acetate. The purpose of this research is to make cellulose acetate
membrane by utilizing cellulose from pineapple leaf waste as the main raw
material for making membranes with variations in PEG composition and
annealing temperature, and to study the effect of PEG composition and annealing
temperature on the characteristics and performance of membranes in wastewater
treatment in the pulp and paper. The research begin with taking fiber from
pineapple leaf waste, bleaching process, acetylation process, cellulose acetate
membrane production, and characterized the membrane. Pineapple leaf waste was
chosen as the main raw material because contain high cellulose of 69.5-71.5%.
This makes the pineapple leaves potential enough to be used as a raw material for
making cellulose acetate membranes. Optimum membrane performance was
obtained in the composition of PEG 10% (w/w) and annealing temperature of
70˚C with flux 27.836 L/m2h, rejection of COD 65.31%, BOD5 75.21% and TSS
72.09% with characteristics pore size of 62.82 nm, tensile strength of 4.495 MPa
and elongation of 18.20%. The addition of PEG affects the characteristics and
performance of the membrane ie the greater the composition of the PEG will
enlarge the pore size, reduce mechanical properties, increase flux and reduce
rejection. Increasing annealing temperature will reduce pores, improve
mechanical properties, reduce flux and enlarge rejection.
