Sintesis Membran Selulosa Asetat Dari Daun Nanas Untuk Pengolahan Limbah Cair Industri Pulp And Paper Dengan Variasi Aditif Polyethylene Glycol
The membrane is defined as a selective and semipermeable thin coating that sits
between two phases, namely the bait phase and the permeate phase. The purpose
of this research is the synthesis of cellulose acetate from pineapple leaves for
membrane making raw materials, making the cellulose acetate membrane with a
variation of PEG additive composition and operation pressure, studying the effect
of PEG additive composition on the resulting characteristics of cellulose acetate
membranes, as well as studying the effect of operating pressure on membrane
performance. The methodology in this study is cellulose isolation from pineapple
leaves, cellulose acetate synthesis of pineapple leaf fibers, synthesis of cellulose
acetate membranes, pre-treatment of waste pulp and paper industry, and
characterization of cellulose acetate membranes. Cellulose acetate can be
synthesized from pineapple leaves indicated by the results of FTIR cellulose
acetate where there is a peak absorption of C = O carbonyl groups of 1757.23
and 1740.83; and the C – O acetyl group of 1286.58; 1266.32; 1237.39 and
1210.38. In addition, an additive of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) was added with
composition variation of 5, 10, 15% (w/w). Based on SEM analysis, the
composition of PEG 5% (w/w) produces the smallest pore size that is 50 nm and
the composition of PEG 15% (w/w) produces the largest pore size that is 94 nm.
Based on the results of the tensile test, the membrane with a composition of PEG
5% (w/w) has the largest tensile strength value of 5.14 MPa, while the membrane
with a composition of PEG 15% (w/w) has the smallest tensile strength value of
3.995 MPa. In addition, the results of membrane elongation with a PEG
composition of 15% (w/w) have the greatest value of 21.875%, while membranes
with a composition of PEG 5% (w/w) have the smallest elongation value of
18.2%. The results of FTIR analysis on the membrane is known that the
membrane there are wave numbers C = O stretch and C - O stretch which
indicates the presence of PEG in the membrane. Pulp and paper industrial liquid
waste treatment using cellulose acetate membrane is carried out with variations
in operating pressure of 1, 2, 3 bar. The highest value of water flux was obtained
on a membrane with a PEG composition of 15% (w/w) and a 3 bar operating
pressure of 35,290 L/m2.hour. The highest value of the rejection of COD, BOD5
and TSS parameters were obtained from the membrane with a PEG composition
of 5% (w/w) and 1 bar operating pressure of 69.51%; 82.64% and 78.49%.
