Pembuatan Pulp Kimia Dari Batang Sawit Bebas Pati Dengan Proses Organosolv
ABSTRACT
Oil palm trunk are solid waste with considerable potential and have not been used
optimally. Oil palm trunk can be used as raw materials for fiber-based industries such
as the pulp and paper industry, starch industry, and other timber industries.
Organosolv pulping is a pulping process using organic solvents as a processing
medium. The objectives of this research is to obtain the characteristics of pulp (yield,
alpha cellulose and lignin content) and get the effect of time, cooking temperature,
and ratio of liquid solids to the pulp produced. Design Expert 7.0® Program with
Response Surface Methodology (RSM) Box-Behnken Design used to determine the
effect of the methodology and choose the process conditions from a combination of
factor levels that produce an optimal response. Pulp making was performed on
atmospheric conditions wit 30 grams of oil palm trunk powder starch free, formic
acid as a solvent with reaction temperature (110 °C, 130°C and 150 °C), reaction time
(60 minutes, 120 minutes and 180 minute), liquid-solid ratio (10:1 b/b, 12:1 b/b and
14:1 b/b), catalyst H2SO4 0,1% wt. The values obtained for each response, yield pulp
= 26,47-44,78%, lignin content pulp = 4,5-10% and alpha cellulose content 90,70-
95,43%. The cooking time has the most influence on the characteristics and response
of the pulp.
