Optimasi Kondisi Ekstraksi Kalium Hidroksida Dari Abu Tandan Kosong Sawit
ABSTRACT
The use of empty palm fruit bunches has been very limited. One alternative to utilizing oil palm empty bunches waste is by extracting potassium hydroxide from the ashes of empty oil palm bunches. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of process conditions on the response (yield of potassium hydroxide) and determine the optimum conditions in the extraction process of potassium hydroxide using oil palm empty bunches ashes. The effect of process conditions on the response was processed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) using Box- Behnken Design (BBD). The dry ashes of the empty palm bunches are reashing in the furnace and the liquid solid extraction process is carried out using the single stage method and water as the solvent. The response surface methodology was used to study the effects of extraction temperature, extraction time and liquid-solid ratio which were identified as key variables. The relationship between variables to the yield response of potassium hydroxide is modeled Y = 75.10 - 0.37 A + 3.40 B - 2.76 C + 2.23 AB - 5.22 AC + 5.75 BC - 6.07 A2 + 1.90 B2 - 0.35 C2. The optimal response value for potassium hydroxide is 73%, with the processing conditions of the extraction temperature 77.08oC, the liquid-solid ratio 10/1 w/w for 4 hours.
