Ekstraksi Koh Dari Abu Tandan Kosong Sawit Menggunakan Sistem Bertahap Banyak Beraliran Counter Current Dan Co-Current
ABSTRACT
Utilization of palm empty fruit bunches is still limited. One alternative to utilizing
palm empty fruit bunch waste is by extracting potassium hydroxide from palm
empty fruit bunch ash. This research aims to determine the effect of reashing,
extraction time and temperature using the co-current and counter current flow
methods on potassium concentration. Palm empty fruit bunches ash was reashed
at 600°C in the furnace for 3 hours. Palm empty fruit bunches ash before and
after reashing was sieved with a 100 mesh sieve then extracted using water as a
solvent at temperatures of 50°C, 65°C, 80°C and extraction times 30, 60, 90
minutes. The results showed that the use of palm empty fruit bunches ash before
reashing at extraction temperature of 80°C, extraction time of 90 minutes, using
the counter-current flow method produced the highest potassium concentration of
78.514 ppm. From the research, it’s known that potassium concentration
increases with increasing temperature and extraction time. Potassium
concentration using a counter-current flow system is greater than co-current flow.
The proses of reashing palm empty bunches ash cause potassium content in ash to
decrease.
