There is an affirmative action policy that regulates the involvement of women in the management of political parties and the women's legislative nomination quota of 30 percent. Opportunities in political engagement and roles in leadership for women, it is important to continue to be improved not only to influence political decision-making processes, but also so that women can build better political systems and ethics. More and more problems in the country including gender issues are included in various fields of development including health, violence against women, child marriage, economics, and politics. This research was conducted with the intention of (1) Knowing the understanding of female lecturers at Riau University about politics. (2) Knowing understanding of female lecturers at the University of Riau on the representation of women in the DPRD of Riau Province in 2019-2024. This research was important, because it knew the understanding of the women themselves, with female lecturers at the University of Riau, as a representation of the group of women with higher education. is a quantitative descriptive study using a survey method to see the understanding of female lecturers on women's representation in the DPRD of Riau Province in 2019-2024. Population is a generalization area consisting of objects / subjects that have and certain characteristics. Defined by researchers to study and then draw conclusions (Sugiyono, 2012). The population in this study was 441 female lecturers at Riau University. For sampling the method used to determine the number of samples using the Slovin formula (Sevilla et.al., 1960) so that the number of samples was 82 female lecturers.
The research was conducted in September 2019-January 2020. The tools used in this study were laptops, stationery, questionnaires, and SPSS applications. The results of research on the understanding of female lecturers at Riau University regarding politics were female lecturers at Riau University having an understanding good about politics. This is seen from the age based on the majority is the age range from 51-60 years ie 35 respondents (42.7%). For the most recent education the majority of respondents were masters namely 64 respondents (79%) and doctoral 17 respondents (21%). Based on the length of time he served as a lecturer since he was first appointed as a lecturer. The majority of respondents who had served the longest were 31 respondents (37.8%) for more than 31 years and 1 respondent (1.2%) who had only served as a lecturer. Based on the survey results the majority of the first respondents used their voting rights before 1999-2004, as many as 75 respondents (91.5%). While in terms of experience following the election, respondents were active since 2011.1999-2004, namely 75 respondents (91.5%), the first respondent's experience following the general election of 82 majority respondents. This shows the relationship of the higher level of respondent education, the
higher the level of understanding of politics, plus the higher experience of female lecturers participating in politics, the higher the level of understanding of politics. The results of research on female lecturers at Riau University are based on understanding on Representation of Women in the DPRD of Riau Province in 2019-2024 is a Female Lecturer at the University of Riau having a good understanding of the representation of Women in the Provincial DPRD. This can be seen from the understanding of female lecturers on the legislative function of women in determining policies to have a response to the interests of women as many as 59 respondents (72.0%) answered well. While Women's Lecturers' Understanding of the Gender Development Index Viewed from the aspect of women's health as many as 38 respondents (46.3%) said it was good. For women's education, 46 respondents (56.1%) said that it was good enough. The level of employment opportunities for women 34 respondents (41.5%) said good. Protection of women's rights 53 respondents (64.6%) said that it was quite good. Protection of women from violence 47 respondents (67.1%) said that it was quite good. Meanwhile, the understanding of female lecturers on the Political Party Policy regarding the efforts of political parties in improving the quality of female legislative candidates out of 82 respondents at most 38 respondents (46.3%) said that it was quite good.
