Pengembangan Perangkat Pembelajaran Matematika Menggunakan Model Problem Based Learning Untuk Memfasilitasi Kemampuan Representasi Matematis Peserta Didik Pada Materi Bangun Ruang Sisi Datar
The results of the preliminary study show that the learning devices used by teachers in schools have not met the rules contained in the 2013 curriculum. This study aims to produce learning tools using the Problem Based Learning model to facilitate mathematical representation skills in the polyhedron material consisting of the syllabus, lesson plan, and student worksheet. In this study, the researcher applied Borg and Gall development model with the following stages: (1) research and data collection; (2) planning; (3) development of learning tools; (4) limited trials; (5) product revision; (6) dissemination.
At the research and data collection stage, the researcher conducted a needs analysis which included analysis of learning tools, analysis of material, and analysis of student characteristics. Based on the result, the researcher designed a learning device consisting of six meetings with the material scope, which are: (1) the surface area of the cube and block; (2) the surface area of the prism; (3) the surface area of the pyramid; (4) volume of cubes and blocks; (5) prism volume; and (6) pyramid volume. The learning device was then developed based on a design that has been compiled and validated by three validators. The results of the validation analysis showed that the criteria are very valid with an average percentage for the syllabus was 92.18%, the lesson plan was 93.64%, and the student worksheet was 93.06%.
The researcher then tested out the learning device on eight grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Siak Hulu. The results of student questionnaire at the limited trial stage showed the student worksheet met the very practical criteria with an average percentage, in which, worksheet-1 was 88.62%, worksheet-2 was 93.30%, worksheet-3 was 91.96%, worksheet-4 was 93.30%, worksheet-5 was 92.86%, and worksheet-6 was 93.30%. The worksheets were then revised according to the suggestions and input from students.
The activities contained in each student worksheet can facilitate and develop students' mathematical representation abilities using the Problem Based Learning model. At the problem orientation stage, students were faced with contextual problems related to the material being studied. Students look at the problems found in the worksheet. In the stage of organizing students, students were directed to identify information from the problem at the previous stage. Students were also directed to ask questions if there was something not understood. In identifying problems, students practiced their verbal representation skills. At the group investigation stage, students collected information to solve problems. Students could practice their visual and symbolic representation skills.
The development research carried out has resulted in a product in the form of a learning device consisting of a syllabus, lesson plan, and student worksheet, using the Problem Based Learning model to facilitate students' mathematical representation skills in valid and practical polyhedron materials.
