Pembuatan Minyak Atsiri Dari Komoditas Alam Serai Wangi Dan Rimpang Jahe
Essential oils are volatile oils or flying oils which are generally liquid and are
obtained from plant parts, roots, bark, stems, leaves, fruit, seeds or flowers by
distillation. Plants that contain essential oils and have the potential to be developed
are lemongrass and white ginger rhizome. The purpose of this study was to utilize
natural local commodities in the form of lemongrass stalks and white ginger
rhizome to produce essential oil with good quality and in accordance with SNI
standards. In this study, variations in the treatment of citronella and ginger rhizome
samples were carried out by blending, chopping and grinding each 500 gram
sample, which was distilled for three hours. Analysis of essential oil parameters in
the form of color test, specific gravity, viscosity, acid number and yield of three
kinds of sample treatments, obtained for citronella, respectively, specific gravity
0.866; 0.854; 0.858, acid number 1,968 ; 1,744 ; 2,463, viscosity 2,337, yield 0.655;
0.400; 0.439. For ginger rhizome obtained a specific gravity of 0.836; 0.832; 0.838,
acid number 2,293 ; 2,027 ; 2,460, viscosity 1,987, yield 0,321; 0.206; 0.191.
