Ekstraksi Likopen Sebagai Zat Warna Merah Alami Dari Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (Pfad)
Lycopene or what is often referred to as α-carotene is a bright red pigment that
is found in fruits that are orange to red. Lycopene is a carotenoid antioxidant that is
very powerful and needed by the body. The main source of lycopene that has not been
optimally utilized is Palm Fatty Acid Destillate (PFAD), a byproduct of the palm oil
processing industry. The reddish orange color of the PFAD identifies a high lycopene
content. In this study, the lycopene contained in PFAD was extracted using a mixture
of hexane: acetone: ethanol (2: 1: 1) as a solvent. The extraction process was carried
out by maceration equipped with a magnetic stirrer by varying the extraction time (60,
90, and 120 minutes) and the weight of the PFAD (50.75 and 100 gr). The lycopene
content produced in the extraction process was analyzed using a UV-Vis
spectrophotometer. From the extraction results obtained consecutively 32,298 ppm,
34,286 ppm, 34,816 ppm, 35,143 ppm, 36,323 ppm, 38,408 ppm, 38,612 ppm, 49,918
ppm, and 41,102 ppm.
