The main objective of investors investing in the capital market is to obtain stock returns consisting of capital gains (increase in share prices) and dividends (share of profits after tax that is distributed), both of which must be greater or at least equal to the expected return. Meanwhile, the company sell it's stock in capital market is to get capital from company outside to do operational activities. One way for companies to attract investors to invest in stocks is to provide signals about good financial conditions or performance and can be seen from the publication of financial reports by the Indonesian Capital Market Directory (ICMD. Furthermore, the obtained signal will be the data to be analyzed for investors before investing. A good signal will increase the share price because the demand is bigger than supply, so the shares are actively traded. One way for investors to analyze micro factors (company performance) before investing is to analyze financial ratios in the financial statements and also analyzes macro factors such as exchange rate fluctuations. There is a different phenomenon towards the stock return of each bank and the results gap of research conducted by previous researchers from company data in the banking sector where there is fluctuation or instability. The banking industry is a high-risk business sector because most of its assets are productive assets (credit) which can cause losses at any time if not managed properly. The main objective of this research is to analyze the effect of liquidity, leverage, and profitability on stock returns, with exchange rates as a moderating variable (empirical study of banking companies on the IDX 2014-2018 period). So it will be known by the results of the research that has been done whether it can strengthen signal theory and become a consideration for investors before investing in the stock of banking sector, the investors must analyze micro factors like banking financial performance namely liquidity (LDR), leverage (PR) and profitability (ROA) and also macro factors, namely the exchange rate.
The object of this research is a company or banking industry that was listed on the IDX (Indonesia Stock Exchange) with an observation period of 2014 to 2018. The sample data collection in this study used a purposive sampling method, which is a data collection method based on certain considerations in accordance with the sample requirements required by the researcher. The banking companies that have been in the Indonesia Stock Exchange are 44 banks and only 35 banks that qualify to be sampled. The classical assumption test is used to providing certainty that the regression equation obtained has accuracy in estimation, unbiased and consistent. Meanwhile, the regression equation is Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) which is used for the analysis test.
The research results showed that the theory of signals, demand and supply can strengthen and clarify the liquidity ratio as measured by the loan to deposit ratio, the leverage ratio is measured by the primary ratio and the profitability ratio is measured by the return on assets has a partially significant positive effect on the stock returns of banking and the exchange rate as a moderating variable is able to strengthen the effect of liquidity, leverage and profitability on the stock returns of banking. Thus it can be
