Penggunaan Inhibitor Dari Ekstrak Daun Ketapang (Terminalia Catappa L) Dengan Metode Sokletasi Untuk Mengendalikan Laju Korosi Pada Baja Karbon Astm A36
ABSTRACT
Corrosion is an event of metal damage caused by the reaction of metal with
various substances in its environment which causes a decrease in the quality of a
metal material. One way that can be used to reduce the rate of corrosion was
added by an inhibitor. Terminalia Catappa l plants are tropical plants that were
commonly found in Indonesia. High concentrations of tannins were found in
almost every part of the Terminalia Catappa L plant, including the leaves. This
study aims to determine the best crude tannin concentration from the solvent
ratio, determine the effect of the concentration of the corrosive media solution on
the corrosion rate of carbon steel, and determine the inhibition efficiency of
Terminalia Catappa L leaf extract on carbon steel. A total of 20 grams of
Terminalia Catappa L leaf powder was electrocuted with ethanol and distilled
water with a solvent ratio of 1: 2, 1: 3, and 1: 4. The filtrate of each solvent was
tested for phytochemistry using FeCl3 to determine the presence of tannin
compounds in the filtrate. Identification of tannin compounds was carried out
using IR and UV-Vis spectrophotometers. Furthermore, the corrosion test was
carried out using the weight loss method on carbon steel ASTM A36 with a
variation of the corrosive HCl solution 0.1; 0.5 and 1 M, variations in a contact
time of 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours and variations of zero concentration and 1.5 g / L
inhibitor used. The results showed that the lowest corrosion rate with the addition
of an inhibitor was obtained 0.758 miles meter per year at a variation of 96 hours
contact time and 0.1 M HCl concentration, while the highest corrosion rate
without the addition of inhibitor was obtained 12.635 miles meter per year at 96
hours contact time variation and 1 M HCl concentration The highest inhibition
efficiency was obtained at the variation of 96 hours contact time and 0.1 M HCl
concentration, which was 89.77%.
