Sintesis Dan Karakterisasi Zeolit Sodalit Berbahan Dasar Lempung Maredan: Kajian Pengaruh Variasi Ph Terhadap Kristal Zeolit
Siak Regency prossess promising natural clay, for it hasn’t widely used. Maredan’s natural clay, which contains quite high amount of silica and alumina, could be used as the main ingredients of zeolite, minerals with high applicabality. Natural mineral materials have been used to synthesis zeolite. For instance, Maredan’s natural clay (Siak Regency, Riau Province). This research was aimed to determine the character of the zeolite sodalite and the effect pH. Maredan’s natural clay was considered to have potential raw material for zeolite due to it’s high composed high of SiO2 and Al2O3. Sodalite type zeolite has been successfully prepared from Maredan’s natural clay using a facile reflux method. The clay was firstly treated with H2SO4 1 M by varying the pH of the filtrate (pH 2 and 4). The obtained slurry was dried overnight and then calcination at 750ºC for 3 hours. The reflux method has been done by mixing the calcination clay with 50 mL of NaOH 5 M (300 rpm, 8 hours). The final step was rinse with aqua DM to adjust the pH of the filtrate (pH 8, 10, and 12). The obtained powder was carefully examined by XRD, XRF, SEM, and FTIR analyses. The results showed zeolite has been successfully formed with moderate purities of 21,29-32,43% and with crystal sizes of 19,25-34,84 nm (derived from XRD data). The synthesized zeolite has a Si/Al ratio of 1,6-2,2 (XRF data) that agreed well with previous reports. From SEM images, zeolite particles have a similar shape to armadillo scales. The FTIR analysis ensures the formation of sodalite-type zeolite that has an external vibration (double rings of D4R and D6R) at wavenumber of 502,48 cm1. This study confirms that the higher the pH, the higher the size of the zeolite crystal produced.
