Karakterisasi Pengoperasian Alat Tangkap Nelayan Desa Pambang Pesisir Berbasis Perekaman Global Positioning System
Global Positioning System (GPS) is a positioning navigation system that provides
speed, direction, path, distance, and other information. GPS can be used to
determine the position of transportation and observe land or sea animals'
behavior, but lack found in capture fisheries during fishing gear activities
observation. This study aimed to characterize the nature or of fishing gear
activities (longlines, bottom drift gillnets and surface drift gillnets) which
operated by fishermen in Pambang Pesisir Village based on speed (km/hour),
distance (meter), time (hours:menutes:seconds), and course direction (degrees) as
fishing activities characters. Five fishing activities were observed included (i)
fishing ground trips, (ii) setting, (iii) soaking time, (iv) hauling, and (v) return to
fishing base. The data recorded by three Garmin GPS devices and there were 31
trips data recorded for longline activities, 30 trips for bottom drift gillnet and 28
trips for surface gillnet. The result showed that speed is an important character
because it can affect the value of accumulated time and distance. The composition
back to fishing base is the kind of activity that requires the largest average
distance:42% (long line), 35% (bottom drift gillnets and surface drift gillnets)
when composition time soaking takes the largest average time, which is:38,8%
(long line), 49,1% (bottom drift gillnets) and 50,7% (surface drift gillnets).
