Analisis Motivasi Belajar Dan Kemampuan Berpikir Tingkat Tinggi Serta Pengaruhnya Terhadap Prestasi Belajar Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Ekonomi Uin Suska Riau
Education is a conscious effort to develop human resources (HR) through
teaching activities. When the learning process takes place, at that time the
learning process occurs. Learning according to Sardiman (2010) is defined as an
effort to change behavior. There are several theories which argue that the
learning process rests on cognitive structures, namely structuring facts, concepts
and principles so as to form a unity that has meaning for the student subject.
The success or failure of improving the quality of education in higher
education can be indicated by the academic achievements achieved by students
(test scores, mastery of course material, participation in scientific papers and
others). Improving student learning achievement can be done by increasing
student motivation and higher order thinking skills. Motivation is the overall
driving force within students that gives rise to learning activities that ensure the
continuity of learning activities and which provides direction for learning
activities so that the goals desired by the learning subjects can be achieved. A
person will be successful in learning, if in himself there is a desire to learn
(Sardiman, 2010). Higher order thinking skills (HOTS) are very important for
students in learning in order to improve the quality of education, especially in
terms of: (1) helping to gain knowledge, improve theory, strengthen arguments;
(2) expressing and formulating questions clearly; (3) collect, assess, and interpret
information effectively; (4) make conclusions and find solutions to problems
based on strong reasons; (5) get used to being open-minded; and (6)
communicating ideas, opinions, and solutions clearly to others (Bhisma Murti,
2011). Based on the thoughts that have been put forward, the author is interested
in researching the Analysis of Learning Motivation and High-Level Thinking
Ability and Their Effects on Student Achievement in the Economic Education
Study Program of UIN SUSKA Riau.
This study aims to identify and analyze learning motivation and higher-order
thinking skills and their effects on student achievement of the economic education
study program at UIN Suska Riau. The population in this study was 92 students.
The sampling technique used purposive sampling. This type of research is
descriptive quantitative. Data obtained using questionnaires, tests and
documentation. The collected data were then analyzed using descriptive analysis
and path analysis assisted by SPSS and SmartPLS.
The results of the study found: 1) The learning motivation of students of the
economic education study program of UIN Suska Riau, both learning motivation
was in the high category and the indicators of intrinsic motivation and extrinsic
motivation of the students of the economic education study program of UIN Suska

Riau were in the high category. 2) The high level thinking ability of students of the
economic education education study program at UIN Suska Riau is in the high
enough category. 3) The learning motivation of students of the economic
education study program of UIN Suska Riau has a significant effect on the
learning achievement of students of the economic education study program of
UIN Suska Riau. 4) The high-level thinking ability of students in the economic
education study program at UIN Suska Riau has a significant effect on the
learning achievement of students in the economic education study program at
UIN Suska Riau. 5) the learning motivation of students of the economic education
study program of UIN Suska Riau has a significant effect on the high-level
thinking skills of students of the economic education study program of UIN Suska
Riau. 6) Motivation to learn through high-level thinking skills of students in the
economic education study program of UIN Suska Riau has a significant effect on
the learning achievement of students of the economic education study program of
UIN Suska Riau. The meaning of learning motivation and high-order thinking
skills will increase the learning achievement of students in the economic
education study program UIN Suska Riau.
