ABSTRACT

Utilization of Cooking Oil Mixed Feed for Booklet Design in High School
Biology Learning", supervised by Prof. Dr. Yustina, M.Si and Dr. Suwondo,
M.Si
Utilization of used cooking oil in the composition of fish feed is carried out to
minimize costs for feed procurement. This study aims to determine the effect of
giving used cooking oil at different doses on the growth of gouramy (Osphronemus
gouramy) and its potential to produce a booklet design on biology learning in class X
SMA at KD 3.11 and KD 4.11.
This study consisted of two stages, namely experimentation and booklet
design. The experiment was carried out at the Borneo Indah 2 Housing, Kec. Siak
Hulu, Kab. Kampar and booklet design were carried out at the Biology Education
Campus of FKIP, Riau University. This research was conducted in February-
September 2020. The experimental research used a randomized block design (RBD)
of 4 treatments, with each treatment having 3 replications so that there were 12
experimental units. The treatment given was the difference in the amount of used
cooking oil given in gouramy feed which was developed from Agustian Bandaso
(2016) research, namely 3%, 6%, and 9% used cooking oil, and control treatment
using feed made by PT Matahari Sakti. The parameters measured included absolute
weight growth, relative growth, daily growth rate, feed efficiency, feed conversion,
survival rate, and water quality. Analysis of research data using Analysis of
Variances (ANOVA) and then continued with the DMRT test at a significance of 5%.
The booklet design is a continuation of the experimental research results. The booklet
design was carried out using the literature study method which consisted of two
stages, namely the analysis and design stages.
Based on the analysis of the research results, it can be concluded that the
application of used cooking oil in fish feed has a very significant effect on the growth
of gouramy (Osphronemus gouramy). The treatment with 9% used cooking oil was
the research treatment that produced the best growth of gouramy. The data obtained
on the 9% used cooking oil treatment were the absolute weight growth of 5.34 gr, the
daily growth rate of 1.51%, the relative growth rate of 133.05%, the feed efficiency
of 38.16% and the feed conversion of 2.62. The 9% used cooking oil treatment
resulted in growth that was almost close to the control treatment. The survival rate of
gouramy during maintenance ranges from 86.67-100% with water quality categorized
as quite good.
Based on the results of the research, the booklet design can be used as
teaching material on waste material and waste handling for class X SMA, KD 3.11,
namely analyzing data on environmental changes and the causes and impacts of these
changes for life and KD 4.11, namely proposing ideas for solving environmental
change problems according to the context of environmental problems in the area.
