This research is motivated by the low ability of mathematical problem solving (MPSA) and learning motivation of junior high school students in Kuantan Singingi Regency. Based on the results of interviews with students, most students said they were still hesitant to solve problems in the form of problems, and even students could not solve MPSA questions by making them known, asked and answered. Based on the results of observations that refer to indicators of problem-solving abilities, there are still a few students who are able to master each stage that is passed to really understand until the end of the problem-solving process. Then, not only the student MPSA is still low in junior high schools in Kuantan Singingi Regency but the students' motivation to learn is also low. Based on the analysis of questionnaires distributed at high, medium, and low level schools, it is seen that there are still many students who lack curiosity about social arithmetic material, as well as the urge to find out more about social arithmetic material. The difficulties experienced by students include the lack of understanding of students and the ability of students to analyze problems. To solve this problem, the researchers applied the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The PBL learning model that starts with a problem to get a conclusion from these problems, so it can be said that in the process of improving student's MPSA, an appropriate learning model is needed. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the mathematical problem solving ability (MPSA) and the learning motivation of students in class VII on the social arithmetic material of State Junior High Schools in Kuantan Singingi Regency.
The research method used in this research is the experimental method. This experimental research uses a validity instrument in the form of a validation sheet to assess the feasibility of the syllabus, lesson plans, LKPD, MPSA test questions and student learning motivation questionnaires. The results of the validation of each validator stated that the learning device used was valid with an average value of 3.31 for the syllabus, 3.27 RPP and 3.26 LKPD. The results of the test of the MPSA test question instrument from the six questions tested were declared valid, while for the learning motivation questionnaire, only 18 statements were declared valid. The results of hypothesis testing with the t test stated that there was an effect of the application of the PBL model on the MPSA of class VII SMP Negeri students in Kuantan Singingi Regency on social arithmetic material.
Based on data obtained from high, medium and low level schools, the pretest and posttest data state that the data is normally distributed where significant> 0.05. Then for testing the homogeneity of high, medium, and low level schools on the pretest and posttest data, it was obtained significant> 0.05, meaning the data was

homogeneous. Based on the results of hypothesis testing that has been carried out based on high, medium, and low levels, it is found that there is a positive influence from the application of the PBL model to MPSA and student learning motivation in terms of all students.
