ABSTRACT
Mung bean (Vigna radiata L) is a type of food plant that is widely known in
Indonesia because mung bean seeds contain lots of protein and vitamins. Increasing
production can be done by improving cultivation techniques such as increasing soil fertility
by means of fertilization. Water hyacinth compost can improve the physical, biological, and
chemical properties of the soil so that it creates a good growing environment for plants and
required the addition of inorganic fertilizers such as NPK for the availability of nutrients
needed for plant growth.This research aims to obtain the growth and production of mung
bean plants by applying water hyacinth compost and NPK and obtaining the best dose
combination.The research was conducted in the experimental station, Faculty of Agriculture,
the University of Riau from august to december 2019. This research is a factorial experiment
arranged according to a randomized block design (RBD). The treatment was given is the
dosses of water hyacinth compost such as : G1 = 5 ton.ha-1, G2 = 10 ton.ha-1, G3 = 15 ton.ha-
1 and dose of NPK such as : A0 = without NPK, A1 = 75 kg.ha-1, A2 = 150 kg.ha-1, A3 = 225
kg.ha-1. The parameters observed were plant height, number of branches, length of main stem
internodes, age of flowering, number of pods per plant, percentage of pithy pods per plant,
production per plot, and weight of 100 seeds. The results showed that combination of water
hyacinth compost and NPK fertilizer significantly affected the parameters of plant height,
length of main stem, percentage of pithy pods per plant and production per plot and had no
significant effect on parameters of the number of branches, flowering age, number of pods
and weight of 100 seeds. Combination of giving 15 ton.ha-1 water hyacinth compost and 225
kg.ha-1 NPK fertilizer was the best treatment to increase the growth and production of mung
bean.
