Pembuatan Bahan Bakar Cair (Bio-Oil) Dari Tandan Kosong Sawit Dan Ban Bekas
ABSTRACT
Bio-oil is a fuel alternative to substitute crude oil which are renewable
(renewable fuel), which means that bio-oil can be produced continuously since
made from raw material that is renewable, i.e. plants. The raw material used in
this study is a Palm Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) and used tires of motorcycle. The
purpose of this study was to know about the effect of reaction time on
the yield of bio-oil. In this study, the method used is the catalytic co-pyrolysis, that
is the process of chemical decomposition of organic material of process heating at
temperature of 500oC using nitrogen gas. The results were obtained from this
study by varying time of 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, and 40 minutes by
using CaO catalyst of 3% respectively 33.2%, 44.7%, 44.9%, and 42%, highest
yield that has result in this study with using CaO/raw material of 3% w/w at
500oC, i.e. at 30 minutes is 44.9 %. The characteristics of bio-oil were obtained,
i.e. the density is 0.944 gr/ml, viscosity 1.681 cSt, pH 6.1 and the calorific value
is 43.969 MJ/Kg. While, the results were obtained by varying the time of 10
minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, and 40 minutes without using an CaO catalyst
respectively 33.9%, 36.5%, 45.5%, and 46.3%. highest yield that has result in this
study without using CaO catalyst at 500oC, i.e. at 40 minutes is 46.3 %. The
characteristics of bio-oil were obtained, i.e. the density is 0.999 g/ml, viscosity
1.354 cSt, pH 4.3 and the calorific value 42.591 MJ/ Kg.
