Penggunaan Metode Acid Leaching Untuk Pemurnian Pasir Silika Dari Daerah Mapur, Bangka, Kep. Bangka Belitung
ABSTRACT
Silica sand is a material that is commonly found in Indonesia. However, the silica
sand found is not in a pure state, so it needs to be refined. One method for
purifying silica from its impurities is the acid leaching method. Acid leaching or
liquid solid extraction method is a contact between the solid phase and the liquid
phase (acid) where the solute diffuses from the solid phase to the liquid phase, so
that the solute components in the solid can be separated. This study aims to purify
silica sand (SiO2) from Mapur, Bangka, from impurities, especially Fe. In this
study, the separation and purification process of silica (SiO2) was carried out
through three stages of the process, namely sand processing, calcination, and
leaching. In the leaching process of silica sand, H2SO4 solutions of various
concentrations (5, 10, 20 and 40%) were used. The leaching process was carried
out by stirring for 2 hours using a magnetic stirrer at 100°C. The sand before
leaching (feed) and the sand after leaching (product) are melted with NaOH in
the furnace, which is then tested for iron content using Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometer (AAS) equipment. From the silica sand refining process using
the leaching method with a sand particle size of -70 mesh, the best sulfuric acid
concentration in reducing Fe content is 20% because it can reduce Fe content by
91%.
