Pengaruh Perlakuan Asam Dan Basa Terhadap Karakteristik Dan Aktivitas Katalitik Mno2
Cryptomelane is a hollow type manganese oxide mineral that has a tunnel structure of 2x2. The mineral cryptomelane can be used as an adsorbent and catalyst for the degradation of organic compound wastes. The purpose of this study was to synthesize cryptomelane type manganese oxide by sol-gel method using KMnO4 and C6H8O7. The products were then treated with an acid (acetic acid) and base (KOH) to modif their surface and tested for the degradation of MB using fenton process. As-synthesized manganese oxide and acid or base treated MnO2 were characterization by the X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Brunauer, Emmet and Teller (BET) means indicated both untreaded ot treaded samples produced cryptomelane type manganese oxide. The characterization results showed nothing other phases formed besides cryptomelane. Cryptomelane with KOH base treatment 6, 12 and 24 hours increased the K/Mn ratio with respective concentrations of 0,66; 0,60 dan 0,69. Cryptomelane and HAc-cryptomelane 24 hour, KOH-cryptomelane 6, 12 and 24 hours have a surface area of is 22,889; 26,438; 26,460; 25,217; 24,505 m2/g. The synthesized cryptomelane catalyst was then applied for the degradation of methylene blue using H2O2 as an oxidant. Based on this study, it can be concluded that KOH-cryptomelane is a catalyst with a maximum degradation of 94.465% for 60 minutes of reaction time.
