Sintesis Dan Karakterisasi Zeolit Dari Lempung Alam: Variasi Ph Pasca Leaching Dan Waktu Aging
Maredan natural clay has been used as a raw material for zeolite synthesis, but the results were not satisfying because metal impurities were still found. As a result, the purity of the zeolite produced is still relatively low. A special treatment is needed that aims to remove these impurities in the clay, namely carrying out the leaching process with acid. In this connection, post-leaching pH adjustment involves the exchange of cations with H+ ions which can affect the size and surface area of the pore. The zeolite synthesis in this study was studied through various pH after leaching of Maredan clay with sulfuric acid and the aging reaction time of zeolite formation. The initial stage, Maredan clay was leached with 1 M H2SO4 by reflux at 80 oC for 3 hours, then filtered. The paste obtained was washed repeatedly with mineral-free aqua so that it reached post-leaching pH 2 and 4. Then, the calcination process was continued for 3 hours at a temperature of 650 oC. In the zeolite synthesis stage, the clay after calcination is mixed into 5 M NaOH solution and aged for varying times (3, 5 and 7 hours) at a speed of 300 rpm, followed by a reflux process at 100 oC for 8 hours to obtain zeolite particles. The zeolite solid obtained was then characterized by several instruments, namely XRF, XRD, FTIR and SEM. XRF analysis showed that the Si/Al ratio of the clay with pH adjustments after leaching 2 and 4 increased from 1,78 to 2,07 and 2,13. Based on XRD analysis data, the effect of post-leaching pH and aging time resulted in an increase in crystallinity and purity. The highest purity was found in zeolite samples with a pH after leaching of 2 and an aging time of 7 hours, namely 68.8%. SEM micrographs showed the zeolite sodalite morphology in the form of spherical crystals that were clearly visible and homogeneous along with the increase in pH acidity after leaching and aging time. The formation of the sodalite framework based on FTIR is indicated by the appearance of a wave number of 515.02 cm-1, which is a sign of external vibrations from double rings D4R or D6R. Zeolite sodalite with acid activation treatment at pH 2 after leaching and aging time of 7 hours showed the optimum result, which has a purity of 68.8% and an average crystal size of 21,68 nm.
