Dog conch shells contain carbonate compounds (CaCO3) which can be conversed to CaO through a calcination process at a temperature of 700-900 ºC. CaO is an active catalyst in the transesterification biodiesel reaction. One of the thing that can we do to increase the effectivenes of CaO catalyst in biodiesel production is by impregnated the alkaline metal in CaO. The alkaline metal insertion progress is by impregnating KOH on CaO. The waste of used cooking oil can be used as one of the raw material for biodiesel synthesis that can be developed. The use of used cooking oil for biodiesel production will provide several advantages, including: reducing the household wastes and reducing biodiesel production costs, so that the price is cheaper than using pure vegetable oil. Biodiesel is also an environmentally friendly fuel. Biodiesel production using dog conch shell catalyst was carried out at calcination temperature of 900 ºC for 10 hours, impregnated with K 1, 3, 5% and calcinated again at 600 ºC for 5 hours. The method of the surface area measurement on the catalyst is using the BET. The optimum surface area of the K 1% impregnated CaO calcination catalyst is 20,230 m2/g. The results of functional group analysis using Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) show the presence of an OH group in the wave number (3200-3650 cm-1). The optimum yield bioidesel was 84,24% with catalyst weight of 3% CaO 1:6 mole ratio of oil and methanol, 3 hours reaction time and 60 ºC reaction temperature. The biodiesel obtained was the water content 0,02%, density 874 kg/m3, viscosity 3,60 mm2/s, acid number 0,5 KOH/g, carbon residue 0,03%, saponification number 395 mg KOH/g, iodine number 57,58 g-I2/100g and catane number 47,16. All of those were according SNI 04-7182-2015 except for cetane number.
