Hidrolisis Hemiselulosa Batang Sawit Bebas Pati Dengan Proses Organosolv Dalam Media Asam Formiat
Palm trunk are agricultural solid waste which is still not optimally utilized. Palm
trunk have a high starch content so that they can be used as raw material for making
bioplastics, dextrins and adhesives. The hemicellulose hydrolysis experiment of
starch-free palm trunk was conducted to study the possibility of the using starchfree
palm trunk as raw material for the chemical industry, as well as to determine
the behavior and kinetics of starch-free palm trunk hydrolysis by organosolv. The
hydrolysis of starch-free palm trunk hemicellulose was carried out in batches on a
laboratory scale. The experimental variables studied were formic acid concentration
of 85% by weight, concentration of catalyst (0; 0.05; 0.1; 0.15; 0.2% by weight),
reaction time (0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 30. ; 45; 60; 90; 120; 180 minutes) and liquid solids
ratio 15/1. The results of the experiment showed that the hydrolysis of starch-free
palm trunk hemicellulose organosolv produced pentose and furfural which could be
used as industrial raw materials. The concentrations of pentose and furfural
dissolved in the used cooking liquid in this experiment were pentose (0.31-1.37
grams / l) and furfural (1.45-2.95 grams) with the percentage of hemicellulose
recovery ranging (28-57%). The hydrolysis behavior of starch-free palm trunk
hemicellulose in formic acid media shows two unidirectional series processes that
have different rates and with two different hemicellulose fractions that are
hydrolyzed in a parallel model, namely partly hydrolyzed quickly, the rest
hydrolyzed slowly.
