Pengaruh Penambahan Dosis Biochar Dari Cangkang Sawit Terhadap Efisiensi Penurunan Kadar Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (Tph) Pada Tanah Tercemar Minyak Bumi
ABSTRACT
Petroleum contaminated soil processing can be done by adding biochar to
the soil. Biochar can affect the microbial population and can act as an adsorbent
in the soil, thereby increasing the efficiency of reducing TPH levels. Palm shell
has the potential as a raw material for making biochar because it contains
cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The purpose of this study was to compare the
biochar characteristics of palm shells according to SNI and to study the effect of
adding biochar doses in reducing TPH levels in petroleum contaminated
soil. Biochar was pyrolyzed at 550oC for 30 minutes and activated using NaOH
solution. Variations in the addition of biochar doses used in this study were 3%,
5%, and 7% with an incubation time of 28 days. Biochar from palm shells in this
study has met the requirements for activated carbon based on SNI 06-3730-1995,
with a water content of 1,3%, an ash content of 5,25%, a volatile content of
14,58%, and fixed carbon of 78,6%. The resuls showed that the highest decrease
in TPH levels occurred at the addition of biochar doses by 7%, it could reduce the
TPH value from 3,05% to 1,2% with a removal efficiency of 60,65%.
