Kajian Penyerapan Emisi Gas Co Dan Partikulat Menggunakan Karbon Aktif Dari Kayu Pohoh Karet Pada Sepeda Motor
ABSTRACK
Activated carbon materials with highly developed surface area are widely use
dinnumerous fields, such as the separation and purification of liquids and gases in
many areas of human and industrial applications, protection from toxic substances,
solvent recovery and decolorizing, catalyst support, supercapacitors, electrodes,
gas storage processes and biomedical engineering. This study aims to study the
efficiency of adsorption of CO gas and particulates in motorcycle emissions by
using activated carbon from rubberwood. Activated carbon was prepared by
carbonization process at 500°C for 2 hours using 10% ZnCl2 activator and sieving
with a filter size of 200 mesh. The operating conditions of the adsorption process
were varied with the length of the adsorbent of 3; 4 and 5 cm. The activated carbon
product is tested for proximate analysis. The results of the proximate analysis for
activated carbon showed that the moisture content 4,1%, ash content 8,2%, volatile
matter 6,8%, and fixed carbon 80,9%. The results showed that the highest CO gas
removal in motorcycle emissions was 79,765% at the lenght of 5 cm and a contact
time at minute 0:20. On the other hand, particulate emissions have increased after
testing using adsorbent. The best adsorption capacity value occurred at minute
0:20 with an adsorbent length of 3 cm, 124,356 mg/g. The results of this study
concluded that the adsorbent from rubberwood met SNI quality standards and
could be used as an alternative to absorb emissions from motorbikes.
