Pengaruh Waktu Ball Milling Terhadap Besaran Magnetik Dan Komposisi Kandungan Pasir Alam Sungai Rokan Provinsi Riau
Research on magnetic characteristic and element content identification from the natural sand of the Rokan River in Riau Province has been done. Sand samples were taken from 5 points with 10 kilograms per point from Rokan River. The samples are dried in the sun before separation between magnetic particles and non-magnetic particles using Iron Sand Separator, this result is called concentrate 1. Concentrate 1 was milled for 30 hours, 50 hours, and 70 hours with an iron ball that has 1.5 centimeters in diameter. The concentrate obtained from the ball milling then separated use Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeb) magnet, this result is called concentrate 2. The results of this research indicate that the magnetic susceptibility of concentrate 1 and 2 have values (4457.441-8527.960) and (14862.232-17984.166)
, while the mass susceptibility of concentrate 1 and 2 have values (2586.309-3948.168)
and (8590.940-9569.072)
. The identification of the element content in natural sand was done using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). XRF test has done on samples and concentrates that have been ball milled for 30 and 70 hours. The XRF test results showed the increase in the concentration of magnetic elements such as Fe after being milled for 30 and 70 hours from 1.669% to 30.583% and 32.103%, while non-magnetic elements such as Si decreased from 84.3391% to 44.435% and 42.666%.
Keywords: natural sand, ball milling, iron sand separator, Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeb), x-ray fluorescence.
