Penentuan Sifat Magnetik Dan Morfologi Oksida Besi Pasir Pantai Kata Pariaman Menggunakan Ball Milling Dua Tahap
Determination of magnetic and morphological properties of sand from Kata Pariaman Beach, West Sumatera have been carried out using a Pasco Magnetic Probe and Scanning Electron Microscope test. The sand sample was dried first and then separated using Iron Sand Separator, before the crushing using Ball Milling 2 steps. The first step of Ball Milling was carried out for 40 hours with milling ball size of 1,5 cm. The second step was done as a function of time ranging from 10 hours to 40 hours. Separation of magnetic and non magnetic particles of Ball Milling product was done using Niodinium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnets. Magnetic properties such as magnetic susceptibility and mass susceptibility was found was measured induction with a 2500 coil solenoid coil, a length of 10 cm, a diameter of 3 cm. The results showed that the magnetic and mass susceptibility of the particles increases as milling time increases. The obtained values of magnetic and mass susceptibility of the sample is in the interval of magnetic and mass susceptibility of iron oxides such as magnetite Fe3O4, hematite, and maghemite that is 20000 to 110000. The result shows that the composition of Fe and Ti elements increases as before and after Ball Milling process as confirmed by the X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) results, while other element Si and others decreases. The magnetic particle size was determined using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) had a small size decreases as Ball Milling time increases from 10 to 40 hours.
