Penentuan Sifat Magnetik Dan Morfologi Oxida Besi Pasir Alam Desa Logas Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi Di Sintesis Menggunakan Variasi Ukuran Bola Milling Dua Tahap
Magnetic properties and morphology of natural sand has been determined. The
natural sand was collected from Logas Village, Kuantan Singingi Regency.
Magnetic and non magnetic particles of the samples were separated using Iron
Sand Separator (ISS) prior to ball milling process. The product of ISS was then
milled for 90 hours with the milling ball diameter of 1.5 cm. The second step of
milling was 30 hours with ball diameter of 0.5 cm and 0.7 cm. The magnetic and
non-magnetic particles of Ball Milling products were separated using a
Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnet. Magnetic susceptibility and mass
susceptibility were determined based on magnetic induction of a solenoid
measured using pasco magnetic probe PS-2126. The composition of Logas
natural sand was determined using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF). The
morphology of the magnetic particles was determined using Scanning Electron
Microscope (SEM). The results showed that the particle size of natural sand for 2-
stage ball milling 30 hours with milling ball diameter of 0.5 cm displays particles
with particle sizes 9,77 μm. As for the particle size of the samples synthesized with
30 hours for 0.7 cm milling ball size, the particles are almost evenly distributed,
which is about 5,37 μm. The content of Fe and Ti in the sample increases while Si
decreases. Mass susceptibility increases with increasing milling ball size.
