Analisa Ukuran Dan Komposisi Partikel Pasir Alam Sungai Rokan Provinsi Riau Sebagai Fungsi Waktu Ball Milling
Determination of size and composition variation of natural sand of Rokan river in
Riau province have been done. Natural sand samples of Rokan river were
collected from 5 points with each point 500 meters apart and a mass of 10 kg per
point. Samples were dried under the sun before the separation between magnetic
and non-magnetic particles using an Iron Sand Separator. The results of the
separation of the Iron Sand Separator in the form of magnetic particles are called
concentrate 1. The product of ball milling was separated using Neodymium Iron
Boron (NdFeB) and the result is called concentrate 2. Magnetic susceptibility of
concentrate 1 and 2 was calculated based on magnetic induction of solenoid and
total magnetic induction of the solenoid as well as the mass of concentrate 1. Size
and composition of natural samples of Rokan river sand and concentrate 2 milled
for 60 hours and 100 hours using ball milling were determined. Magnetic
susceptibility values are in the range of (968,245 - 19471,568) . Scanning
Electron Microscope (SEM), the result showed that the size of magnetic particle
synthesized by ball milling for 60 hours and 100 hours are 107 nm and 96 nm
respectively. X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) identification results showed that the
composition of Fe increased from 1.669% to 35.187%, while the composition of
Si decreased from 84.391% to 41.079% after being ball milling for 100 hours.
