Model Dispersi Moda Polarisasi Dengan Simulasi Spektra Gelombang Cahaya
Optical fiber represents a dielectric medium that can propagate as signal information
in the form of waves. Since it is used for long distance communication which is able
to affect the wave pattern although it launches in high speed then it is neccersary to
control the wave signal properly. This study conducts the dispersion that occurs in
single mode fiber (SMF) due to birefringence and differensial group delay. The
quality of SMF can be seen by investigating the polarization mode dispersion value
(PMD) which is one of the characteristics of optical fiber using a simulation method
of OptiFiber application. The samples used in the simulation are SMF-28, SMF-28e,
SMF-28e+, SMF-28e+LL,SMF-28ULL with various cores and claddings refractive
indices, and the same core and cladding diameters for each fiber lengths from 1000m
until 10000m and various wavelength spectra. PMD simulation results show that the
largest PMD value is found in the average value of SMF-28e with a wavelength of
1550nm corresponding to fiber length of 10000m while the smallest PMD value is
found in the average square root value of the SMF-28 ULL at a wavelength of
1310nm corresponding fiber length of 1000m. A good quality SMF for long distance
communication is SMF which has a small PMD value. The results of this study are
compared to that of experimental results for validation.
