The coastal area is an area that has very potential to be developed and managed in relation to the people who live around the coastal area. One of the coastal areas that has a very potential beach is located in Bengkulu City which is geographically located in the western part of Sumatra Island. The western region bordering the Indian Ocean has a beach that is 525 km long, which extends from southeast to southwest, starting from Kaur Regency to Muko Muko Regency.
The potential of the beach of Bengkulu City is located on a long beach where this beach is one of the tourism potentials that can be developed for regional development and progress and can improve people's lives.
The potential that is very potential to be managed and developed in this coastal area is the potential for marine tourism. Because marine tourism has a positive impact as a support for the movement of the economic wheels of the community with the existence of places to eat, souvenir centers, homestays / inns and also adequate infrastructure such as fish auctions, roads and bridges to support marine tourism areas. With the existing potential, the surrounding community can open small to medium-scale businesses, reduce unemployment and can increase Regional Original Income which can be used for regional development progress.
Currently, the long coastal area of Bengkulu City has quite interesting marine tourism potential, where marine potential and natural beauty are very supportive for tourism. Activities that are relied on in marine tourism in Bengkulu are jogging tracks, beach volleyball and also areas for other sports.
In addition to that, there is potential in the long beach, there is also Jakat Beach which has a shallow and sloping beach depth so that visitors will be safer playing around the water on the beach. This Jakat Beach has banana boat and jet sky facilities. In addition, the underwater beauty of Jakat Beach is still very natural and has hidden beauty. The underwater beauty of Jakat Beach is an underwater park that is hilly and is a habitat for fish and other marine animals that live on this beach.
The Tapak Paderi Beach area, which was once used as a dock during the European colonial period, is one of the potentials that can be managed to support the progress of marine tourism in Bengkulu City. Tapak Paderi Beach is located adjacent to Fort Marlborough, this colonial era fortress is one of the cultural and historical tourist destinations of Bengkulu City, which is located in the long beach area. Marine tourism that is ecologically, economically and socially optimal in terms of ensuring the sustainability of natural resources and the socio-economic life of the local community.

In tourism ecology, attention is often focused on the ability of an area to receive tourist arrivals, so that the desire to develop the tourism sector, and basically an area has a certain ability, is called environmental carrying capacity. Kusumonagoro, explained that the carrying capacity of the tourism environment is determined by two factors, namely tourist destinations and biophysical factors of tourism locations.
The development and management of tourism in an area is very important, because from the tourism sector, it is one of the supporting sources for local revenue. So that it requires the role of local government in collaboration with related agencies, the private sector and the community.
