Studi Fenomenologi: Persepsi Mahasiswa Keperawatan Terhadap Orang Dengan Gangguan Jiwa (Odgj)
The negative perceptions and attitudes on people with mental disorder does
not only come when nurse are working, but since they are students. This study aims to
determine the perceptions of nursing students about people with mental disorder.
Methods: This study uses a qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The
participants in this study are selected using the snowball sampling technique. The findings
of this study were obtained from Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with seven participants
of nursing students at Universitas Riau who had never received mental nursing courses. It
is analyzed by thematic data using the Colaizzi method. Findings: The findings of this
study have four themes, namely: (1) The definitions related to mental disorder (2) The
appearance and attitudes of people with mental disorder is different from normal people
(3) The feelings and attitudes when meeting people with mental disorder (4) The way of
attention to people with mental disorder. Conclusion: This study shows that students had
negative and positive perceptions of people with mental disorder.
