hypertension is one of the health problems that is often experienced by the
elderly. One of the factors that causes hypertension in the elderly is a change in nutritional
status (overweight). This study aims to look determine BMI with hypertension in the elderly
in the Riau Malay community, Rantau Panjang Kiri Health Center, Riau Province. Methods:
This study used a cross-sectional correlation descriptive method. The sample was 84
respondents with accidental sampling technique. The analysis used was bivariate analysis
using the chi-square test. Results: The results of statistical tests showed that there was a
significant relationship between BMI and hypertension (isolated systolic hypertension) with p
value (0.018)
